Beatriz and Angelica Benares, Graham Nelson, and Aidan Yrizarry created a youth group during the Feast of the Epiphany in the beginning of this year. We started out using the first initials of our names, “B”, “A”, “G”, and “A”, but then realized it also stood for “Be a Good Apostle”. And that is how our group name was born.
We wish to promote peace and good works to the world as we did two years ago when we performed corporal works of mercy while preparing for our confirmation in the Family Faith Program at the Church of St. Francis Xavier. Our final “big” project then was raising money to build a water tower in Cambodia for a community that had no access to clean water.
Our initial BAGA projects have included volunteering and meeting once every month to engage in a service project or just to educate ourselves on what’s occurring in the world around us. So far this year, we have participated in the SFX Food pantry, helped out with the food delivery program of St. Francis of Assisi, helped out at a Mali-Nyeta event, watched “A Place at the Table” together, and volunteered to be the Hooplah crew at the AIDS Walk finish line.
We plan to invite more teens into our group and have it grow into something big. Hopefully next fall, we can attract more members, perhaps from the “graduating” confirmation class and other teens from the Parish. We wish to continue on with BAGA and make it grow, please feel free to spread the word. If you are interested in participating, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you at one of our activities soon!
