The Finance Council is pleased to report that our parish is currently operating at a $164,438 surplus compared to a budgeted deficit of $109,122 for the first nine months of this fiscal year ending May 31, 2015. The favorable results are due to both increased giving and reduced spending. We have received two generous bequests totaling $95,000 and have been blessed with increases in Sunday collections, weddings and the Christmas collection. Our Sunday offertory collections are 15.5% higher than last year due in large part to the success of our “Sharing God’s Gifts Increased Giving Program.” Our thanks to all who are participating in this important program.

Our Faith Direct e-giving option continues to grow both in the number of participants and percentage of our total Sunday collections. In May we had 285 parishioners donating 47% of the total collection compared to 235 parishioners and 37% of the total collection in September. As we enter the summer we encourage those not using Faith Direct to consider enrolling as you will be able to support our parish each and every week, even if you are out of town, or unable to attend services due to weather or other circumstances.
In other news, the council is delighted to welcome Mr. Christopher Harris to our ranks. Chris brings a wealth of experience to the table and we are grateful for his willingness to join in our work.
Finally, in the second reading for this Sunday, St Paul reminds the early Church of the importance of being generous: “…As a matter of equality, your abundance at the present time should supply the needs of your neighbors, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality.” (2 CORINTHIANS 8:14). Not only are we responsible for our own lives but for the lives of those around us as well. Not only is it important that we grow, nurture and share our gifts, but that we should teach our children this same lesson and encourage others to do the same.
Our continued thanks to all who support SFX with their time, talent, and treasure. Enjoy the summer!
