Shelter Volunteer Needed - Truly urgent!
On a more serious note, our difficulty in finding enough shelter volunteers to have two each night puts the safety of our guests and volunteers, as well as the continued operation of our shelter, in jeopardy. Please seriously consider taking on one night a month (or every other month) to stay at the shelter. Who knows….it might just change your life!
- Contact Jim English at sfxshelter@gmail.com if you’re interested in volunteering or for more information.

Volunteers:
- Volunteers are needed each night for one of two (or both) shifts:
- Primetime shift: This person opens and prepares the shelter, welcomes the guests, helps to provide the meal items, socializes with guests and sees all guests off to bed, then leaves at lights out.
- Overnight shift: This person arrives at some point during the primetime shift to assist the primetime volunteer, then remains at the shelter overnight, wakes guest in the morning and sees everyone out.
- All new volunteers are paired with an experienced volunteer—no new volunteers are expected to volunteer alone!
- Ideally, there will be two volunteers in the shelter at any given time.
- Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the facility and seeing to it that guests clean up after themselves as well
- Volunteers are not required to stay awake during the night; a cot and clean linens are provided for each overnight volunteer.
