Baptism Schedule – 2016
On the dates listed below, there will be a communal Baptismal Service on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the main church. It is the full baptism liturgy with each family gathered at the font individually for the baptism itself. There is no common baptism during Lent.
Private baptisms are possible if you bring your own priest, or if one of the resident priests is free to preside. Please contact Fr. Sean. Note, however: “Baptism should not be celebrated more than once on the same day in the same church.” If apart from the common celebration several ask for baptism on a single day, those baptisms too must be done together even if a private baptism is sought.
Baptism Class is held for parents and sponsors usually on the first Saturday of the month in the Mary Chapel from 10:30am to 11:45am. When coming to class, please use the 55 West 15th Street entrance. The Mary Chapel is on the 2nd floor. NO REGISTRATION NEEDED.
Are you a registered/active parishioner at St. Francis Xavier for at least 3 months? Do you live within the parish boundaries? Have you taken the baptism class before?
a. If you are a registered/active parishioner, please fill out the baptism form.
b. If you are not a registered/active parishioner and you live within or outside the St. Francis Xavier boundaries need to provide a letter from your home parish stating that you have permission to baptize at our parish. This letter is due at the time of registration.
c. If you are not a registered/active parishioner and you do not have a home parish, know that you are welcome to be part of this community of faith. Please contact our pastor Father Robert VerEecke, SJ to have a talk before registering.
d. Parents and godparents need to take a baptism class in ANY church. If you have taken the baptism class in the last 2 years, you will not need to repeat the class, but you will need to provide confirmation (attendance certificate or letter from parish) that you have taken the class within the last 2 years. You also need to give proof that you have taken the class in another parish. We offer classes on the first Saturday of every month from 10:30 am to 11:45 am.
e. For further questions after registration, please contact Dr. Luz Marina Diaz.
