Dear Parishioners,
This past Monday, we had our annual Gathering of Ministries where parish leaders come together and report on what has been happening during the year. As you know Xavier has an impressive roster of ministries that have to do with issues of Catholic identity, formation, education and service to our neighbors. A frequent comment I hear as people look at the bulletin is how impressive and dynamic Xavier must be as a parish with so much going on! I’m sure you join with me in expressing gratitude for all those who give generously of their time and talent to serve the parish community and those whose lives intersect with our ministries.
The challenge, of course, is to find ways in which “YOU” can be involved, if you are not already. We realize that Xavier is an intentional parish and you may not be able to come to the church at a time other than a Saturday/afternoon or Sunday. This makes programming more difficult than if everyone lived nearby and could come to weeknight gatherings. We just want to make sure that you know that we are open to your suggestions, not only of ways in which we can serve you but also ways in which you can become more engaged in the life of the community if you are so inclined.
One of the special aspects of this parish is that there is so much offered through the leadership of lay people who have a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to sharing their faith. One of the unique programs is “Lay Spirits” which explores a variety of different spiritual experiences. There are informational meetings on the program which begins in September on May 7th (1:30pm) and May 25th (6:30pm). Perhaps this is for YOU!
On another note, I wanted to mention that 4 members of the parish from Catholic Lesbians and Gay Catholics were sponsored by Xavier to attend the New Ways Ministry Conference in Chicago this past weekend. This sponsorship was made possible by a grant to the parish in gratitude for the pastoral care of the LGBTQ community at Xavier. Another part of the grant was specifically targeted for the victims and families of the Pulse tragedy. We are presently working on supporting a memorial event that will take place in June in Orlando.
I hope and pray that this Easter season brings you closer to the Risen Lord!
Peace,
Father Bob
