Music Ministry Seeking New Members
Now is the time when the music ministry especially seeks new members for the coming year. There are five ways in which you might want to participate: The Choir, The Family Faith Choir, The Sunday 5PM Schola Choir, The Bell Choir, and The Instrumental Group. We are particularly looking for new singers in the 5PM Sunday Schola and the Family Faith Choir. Please take a moment to read the descriptions below and if you’re interested or called to service or you just want more information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Director of Music Ministries: John Uehlein (juehlein@sfxavier.org or 646-573-0099)
The Sunday 5pm Schola Choir: This Schola/Choir organized by Jackie Perez, sings at the Sunday 5pm mass along with our instrumental Xavier Players under the direction of John Uehlein. The singers rehearse on Sunday afternoons at 3:45pm along with the instrumentalists. This is the newest singing group at St. Francis Xavier and we invite you to get involved at the ground level. The Schola will also sing at major events and holidays when possible throughout the year. Commitment and the ability to carry a tune and sing in harmony is required.
The Family Faith Choir: This exciting choral experience is an inter-generational choir with both adults and children involved with the choir. All voice types are welcome: children, teens, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Under the direction of Jacqueline C. Perez, Assistant Director of Music, this choir continues to grow in talent and scope. The Family Faith choir sings at the Family Faith Mass, First Communion, Confirmation and Lessons and Carols. For more information or to schedule an audition please contact the Assistant Director of Music: Jacqueline C. Perez: jperez@jesuits.org.
The SFX Adult Choir: It’s time to join up! Service is our password and having fun while preparing liturgy is our way. Faith is our fuel. The St. Francis Xavier Choir is looking for new members now. A pleasant voice, the ability to sing in harmony, and showing up regularly are the only requirements. Reading music is a plus, but not a necessity. Rehearsals are Thurs. nights from 7-9 and we sing at the 11:30 service on Sundays.
Instrumental Ministry: Do you play an instrument? Would you like to be a part of the Music Ministry at St. Francis Xavier? We are looking for competent (intermediate to advanced) instrumentalists now. Woodwinds, strings, brass and percussion are exciting additions to the musical prayer we present at our liturgies. The Sunday 5 liturgy is our instrumental mass and we rehearse at 4PM before the liturgy. Space is limited.
The Bell Choir: The bell choir has room for ten ringers and we are presently at capacity. We invite you to enjoy their music making throughout the year, and we anticipate an opening in 2018
